Recommended Resources

SUPPORT

We highly recommend the no-cost business consultation services offered by the Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC). While they provide a wide range of valuable educational resources, what we consistently see make the biggest impact is their one-on-one consulting.

Think of it as a business therapist, someone who can meet you where you are and help you think through what’s next. Whether you're writing a business plan, exploring funding options, hiring your first team member, navigating financial challenges, or preparing to grow or exit, they offer practical, personalized guidance at every stage.

FUNDING

We recommend the Lean Rocket Lab Local program for businesses based in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties. While Lean Rocket Lab offers resources for entrepreneurs, no matter where you’re located, this local program stands out for one key reason: it pairs funding with education.

This program is accessible to both newer businesses and more established ones, helping entrepreneurs better understand what they need, refine their approach, and gain access to both financial resources and the education to use them effectively. It’s a powerful combination (and one we strongly believe in).

We’re also big fans of this program because Alex Masten, one of the leaders of Michigan Tribe, plays a key role in supporting entrepreneurs through this program.

EDUCATION

We recommend Banzai, a free educational tool made available through a partnership between Michigan Tribe and True Community Credit Union. This resource is designed to help you build confidence and clarity around money, at your own pace.

Banzai offers a wide range of interactive, online learning modules covering both personal and business finances. Whether you’re working on budgeting, understanding your relationship with money, navigating taxes, or exploring ways to fund and manage your business, there’s something here to support you.

It’s practical, accessible, and easy to engage with, making it a great starting point (or reset point) for anyone looking to strengthen their financial knowledge and decision-making.
